Ground cinnamon sold by U.S. discount retailers is contaminated with high levels of lead and should be discarded, federal health officials said Wednesday. Cinnamon products included in the agency's safety alert include the La Fiesta brand sold by La Superior and SuperMercados; Marcum brand sold by Save A Lot stores; MK brands sold by SF Supermarket; Swad brand sold by Patel Brothers; El Chilar brand sold by La Joya Morelense; and Supreme Tradition brand sold by Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores. Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores have removed the cinnamon from their store shelves, a company spokesperson said. No illnesses or other health effects have been reported in connection with the new ground cinnamon alert, the FDA said. The FDA monitors foods for lead levels, but the U.S. government doesn’t broadly limit lead in food products.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is ready to bring colorful displays to the New Mexico sky. The event is scheduled to start at sunrise on Saturday with a drone light show and mass ascension of hot air balloons. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — It’s been 15 years since the world’s elite gas balloon pilots have gathered in the United States for a race with roots that stretch back more than a century. Their ballooning résumé includes four wins in the America's Challenge long-distance gas balloon race, and third- and fourth-place finishes in previous Gordon Bennett competitions. Unlike the colorful hot air balloons that ascend en masse during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta by using heated ambient air, gas balloons have an envelope filled with a gas lighter than air — usually hydrogen. He recalled the Gordon Bennett competition that occurred after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. The gas balloons were the only things in the sky as planes were still grounded.

Under the new partnership, taxis associated with LA Yellow Cab and its five partner fleets will get bookings through the Uber app. The six taxi companies - which include San Diego Yellow Cab, California Yellow Cab, Long Beach Yellow Cab, Fiesta Taxi Cooperative and United Checker Cab - will add up to 1,200 cabs to the Uber platform. "We anticipate that this partnership will have a positive impact for our driver-owners as the pandemic recovery continues," said William Rouse, CEO of Los Angeles Yellow Cab.
